I know I have to keep my hands off of my best friend’s son, but it’s hard… really, really hard…

I didn’t know the guy I picked up in the bar last night was Hero’s son. To be fair, he didn’t even know he had a son until today. I guess we’re all just scrambling to put on our poker faces.

Keeping my hands off of Milo is hard enough thanks to his lickable dimple, flirty smiles, and virgin skin. But I swear this has to be a test. Why else would Hero insist that his son come to live with me? And why is it so hard for Milo to just keep his clothes on already?

If I can't keep my hands off of him I could lose my friends, our club, even the tattoo shop I love more than anything. Given the stakes, it should be easy.

Right, and a Prince Albert just pinches a little…

KM Neuhold’s Virgin Skin is a beautifully crafted story that delves deep into the themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the transformative power of love. The characters are richly developed, each bringing their own unique charm and depth to the narrative. Piston and Milo’s journey is both relatable and inspiring, making it easy to connect with them.

Milo and Piston’s relationship is the heart of this story. Milo, with his gentle and introspective nature, contrasts beautifully with Piston’s bolder and more confident demeanour. Their dynamic is electric, filled with moments of vulnerability and strength. As they navigate their personal insecurities and past traumas, their bond grows stronger, showcasing the healing power of love and acceptance.

Central to the story and the main thorn in Milo and Piston’s burgeoning relationship is Milo identifying himself to his father, Hero, who until now has had no knowledge of Milo’s existence. This reunion is filled with emotional complexity, as Milo grapples his desire for acceptance from Hero. Some of the sweetest scenes in the book involve Milo and Hero as they navigate their way into a new father/son relationship.

Hero’s reaction to Milo and Piston’s relationship adds another layer to the narrative. Piston is terrified that his relationship with Milo with result in the loss of his found family and his business.  After watching Piston’s distress and his eventual decision that Milo is worth everything, Hero’s reaction to Piston and Milo’s relationship is a bit anticlimactic.  It doesn’t take long for Hero to acknowledge his deep affection and trust for Piston and to understand and appreciate the deep bond between Milo and Piston. A beautiful series of scenes that highlight the themes of forgiveness and the importance of family support both found and biological.

K.M. Neuhold’s writing is engaging and heartfelt, with a perfect balance of humour and emotion. The dialogue between Milo and Piston is witty and authentic, adding to the overall charm of the story. Their romance is tender and genuine, building up naturally and leaving readers with a warm, satisfied feeling.  The other members of the Ink Slingers are devoted to each other, and absolutely hilarious in their banter with each other.  I can’t wait to read their books!

One of the standout aspects of Virgin Skin is its portrayal of personal growth and the importance of embracing one’s true self. Milo’s journey of self-acceptance and Piston’s unwavering support highlight the significance of having a partner who truly understands and loves you for who you are. This message is conveyed with sensitivity and grace, making the book a truly uplifting read.

Overall, Virgin Skin is a must-read for anyone looking for a touching, well-written romance that goes beyond the surface to explore deeper emotional truths. K.M. Neuhold has once again proven their talent for creating stories that resonate with readers long after the last page is turned.
