I don’t care how many times Porter falls asleep drunk in my bed or how cute he looks covered in oil smears while I teach him how to fix up the vintage car he has rusting away in his garage, I’m not going to fall for him.

Even if I did, what do a mechanic and a veterinarian have in common anyway?

Crankshaft is a funny no angst story. It is a perfect relaxing weekend read, and it is guaranteed to have you smiling.

Crankshaft has all the humour, fantastic characters, steam (and a lot of dirty talk!), and charming antics that you expect from this author. I particularly enjoyed the reversal of stereotypes involving our big burly mechanic, Steele, and the twinkish veterinarian. I loved their dynamic; even if both were living in denial at certain points, it was clear they were equally into each other.

After striking out several times with the Four Bears crew, it was fantastic to see Porter finally find his man, and what a man he found. Steele was protective and growly, and he absolutely adored Porter. Steele respected Porter and fully appreciated his dirty mouth and toppy attitude.

Crankshaft is the first book in the Big Bull Mechanics series, a spin-off from the Four Bears Construction series. Although many of the men had been introduced in the Four Bears series, it was great to get a proper introduction to their personalities, and it certainly whetted my appetite for their books!

Although the Big Bull series is a spin-off, it can be read as a standalone. BUT, I honestly wouldn't recommend it. There is so much character crossover, and at least in Crankshaft, there isn't much background information; instead, it is assumed the reader has read at least a few of the Four Bears. A lot of the humour and pure enjoyment is lost if you are unaware of the backgrounds of many of the supporting cast members that will be making regular appearances going forward. The Four Bears Construction series is such fun anyway; it's not a hardship to start from the beginning!

I had so much fun reading Crankshaft, and I'm excited to read the rest of the Big Bull books. This is shaping into a great series filled with Neuhold’s signature humour, heat, snark, and genuine love and friendship between the characters. I can’t wait to continue the journey!
